With summer well and truly over, our head is turning towards winter and Christmas. This doesn’t mean outdoor events are over, quite the contrary, there are plenty to keep you and the family busy this winter. Here’s our guide of five events not to miss this season in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire

Hertford Christmas Gala and Christmas Markets

Where: Hertford Town Centre & Hertford Castle

When: Friday 24th to Sunday 26th November

What time: Friday 24th November - 3.30pm - 8pm; Saturday 25th November - 11am - 6pm; Sunday 26th November – 11am – 5pm

 

 

This annual event in the county town of Hertfordshire is a must for all Christmas fans. The gala, which takes place on the Friday night has been running for a number of years and is a celebration of Christmas with a performance stage, entertainment and fairground rides. The light switch on also takes place during the gala, where the streets of Hertford are alight with festive joy.


In addition, Hertford have in recent years added a Christmas market to the event which runs for the weekend. With festive stalls selling goods and food, a fairground and live entertainment throughout the afternoon, it’s the place to be.



Christmas at Wimpole

Where: Wimpole Estate, Royston

When: Friday 24th November to 31st December

This year, Wimpole have organised an after-dark illuminations trail that will “bring the estate to life with over a million twinkling lights and seasonal sounds."



There is nothing more beautiful than a nation trust site at Christmas and it’s always worth a visit. With festive food and drink, local choirs singing Christmas carols and a panoply of Christmas decorations it will definitely give you the Christmas cheer.

Knebworth Christmas Markets

At Hertfordshire’s largest Christmas fair, you will find over 250 stalls selling festive gifts and food from all over the UK. Get your Christmas shopping done in one day at this wonderful fair. Get your tickets early to benefit from the early bird prices from 11th November.



Christmas at Wrest Park

Where: Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedfordshire

When: 1st December to 1st January 

What time: 4pm – 8.30pm

 

Wrest park is another heritage site to have a brand new light trail for 2023. Bringing colour, light and play to Wrest Park, this event is one to not miss. With festive food, warming cocktails and exquisite back drops, it’s a wonderful way to spend some festival time with your family and friends this December.



Stevenage Christmas Light Switch On

Where: Stevenage Town Square

When: Saturday 25th November 2023

What time: 12pm – 5.30pm

 

The Stevenage light switch on will be a great place to be this year with Junior Andre performing and switching on the lights. There will be stalls, live music, free face painting, fairground rides, mobile bar and of course, Christmas lights. You can even meet Mrs Claus.
